Longboard Mold - Taco Concave

For all of our CNC Molds, we start by carefully selecting highest quality lumber and/or sheet of Hard Maple.  For Poplar, we will take it to our CNC that will accurately squares the wood prior to lamination.  When we laminate them into blocks, we use the same glue we use on our skateboards! 

We offer two different species of wood to choose from for the skateboard molds. 

Our two choices in the drop-down box are Poplar and Hard Maple. 

The Poplar is a perfect choice for companies laminating on the smaller scale. 

The Hard Maple version is for full speed production.  We have used hard maple molds at our manufacturing plant that have been making great decks for a decade. 

The Poplar mold may need replacing after 5-10 years.  The reason we disclose it may need replacing after 5-10 years, is if you're constantly pressing 100 decks a day or more, the adhesive can stick to the mold and Poplar being a softer wood than Hard Maple it can rip the fibers of the mold away and/or start to cause damage to the mold itself. After 5+ years on a Poplar Mold you can also see it start to mellow out the mold due to repeated compression.

Hard Maple is much more durable and resistant and less prone to the above problems with Poplar.  Don't let this scare you from buying a Poplar Mold.  They are still very popular as a choice for production.
