What dyed skateboard veneer changes
Dyed veneer puts color inside the laminated deck instead of adding color only as a surface coating. After a deck is cut, rounded and finished, the colored internal plies can remain visible along the edge. That makes dyed veneer useful both for full-color faces and for controlled ply-line combinations.
Where color can go in the layup
Color can be used on an outside face, on selected long-grain core sheets, or in a mixed layup with natural maple. The right combination depends on the desired appearance, available inventory and the manufacturing program.
Dyed veneer is still structural material
The color is only one decision. Grain direction, sheet type, glue coverage, alignment and pressing still determine whether the layup behaves correctly. Builders should choose dyed face, core and crossband material based on the same construction logic used for a natural deck.
Planning a color combination
- Decide whether the top, bottom or both should show a solid dyed face.
- Choose internal colors based on the ply lines you want visible after routing.
- Keep enough material from the same production supply for samples and repeat work when consistency matters.
- Approve the physical result before committing to a large production run.

Is dyed skateboard veneer painted?
No. Dyed veneer is colored wood veneer, so the color can remain visible through the wood layer and at the routed deck edge.
Can I mix natural and dyed veneer in one deck?
Yes. Mixed layups are commonly used when a builder wants a natural face with colored internal ply lines or another controlled combination.
Does dyed veneer change the way a deck is pressed?
The basic lamination process still depends on the correct sheet type, grain direction, adhesive coverage, mold and pressure. Color does not replace those structural decisions.
Can Empire build decks with specific ply colors?
Color placement may be available for custom production depending on inventory, quantity and the approved construction program.
